Another bit of experimenting with the Lensbaby. Just wait until I get the Fisheye optic which should arrive today or tomorrow!
This is another image made after the weekend snowfall but later in the morning than the previous two blog postings (which were made at sunrise). I had moved on to a small community park located higher up on a small ridge. It was a different world up there. Instead of 2-3″ of wet, packed snow, there was about 6″ of much nicer white stuff. When I saw the bird house tucked in among the snow-covered evergreens, I knew I had my composition.
Like I said, I was just experimenting with the Lensbaby. Let me say this – Making blurred images ON PURPOSE WITH THE BLUR EXACTLY WHERE YOU WANT IT is not as easy as it might seem. There is a real learning curve to using the Lensbaby creatively and effectively!
This image was made with the Canon 30D and Lensbaby Composer w/ the f/5.6 aperture ring; handheld.

Nice photo Edward. It is true that a Lensbaby has a learning curve. First there is the basic mastery of focus, but perhaps the more important and interesting learning curve is understanding how to use selective focus to compliment your aesthetic. I hope you enjoy your creative journey!

Absolutely LOVE all the snow!!
Looks like you’re doing well with the lensbaby.
Nice work with the new toy!
Now, I like this! I bet it is difficult to figure where the blur is to go. I have somewhat the same type of difficulty when using my super-duper macro lens. Where do I want the exact sharpness and detail to be? Yes, a learning curve for sure. I’m still working with the macro lens after a year and half trying to figure it out and get my stride with it. Ed, this is a beautiful photo with the Lensbaby.
