This is an image from a Labor Day morning walk along my local creek in an area know locally as the Cinder Banks. This area is what remains of an old iron works and is such a desolate-looking place that if you saw it in March or April, you would never believe anything grows there. Yet in summer and fall, it is one of my favorite wildflower locations. I’ve often said that one man’s wildflowers is another man’s weeds. And this is certainly a weedy place. But if you pick the right weed (wildflower) with the right background, it can all come together as I think it did for this Chicory image. The Chicory plant has to be among the straggliest and weediest of plants and yet the flowers of the Chicory are so beautiful.
Image made with my Canon 30D and Sigma 150mm Macro lens; tripod-mounted.

I completely agree with your assessment of the Chicory, and that’s a beautiful capture of one!
Beautiful, as always!
How beautiful and the details so sharp and clear!
Lovin’ that blue! Makes me think of “cornflower blue” in the Crayola box! I loved that color!
Beautiful compo Ed. This flower is beautiful and sharp and the light is wonderful!
